One-rep max (1RM)

Definition

Your one-rep max is the heaviest weight you can lift once with good form. It is used to compare strength and to set training weights.

In more detail

You rarely need to test it. A hard set of 3 to 10 reps lets you estimate it with a formula such as Epley.

Training weights are often written as a share of your 1RM, for example 75% for sets of about 10.

Example: 100 kg for 8 reps gives an estimated 1RM of about 127 kg.
