Who it’s for/Strength after 50 and 60

Strength training after 50 and 60, at your own pace.

Many people train with weights later in life to make everyday things feel easier. Mitta starts calmer from 50 and calmer still from 60, then builds up step by step, with a target for every set and room for the days your body says no.

Sound familiar?

Most programmes are made for 25-year-olds

Too much, too heavy, too fast, and not much thought about joints or recovery.

You worry about getting hurt

So you stay with light weights that don’t really make you stronger.

You don’t know where to begin

It’s been a while, or you’ve never lifted, and the gym feels like somewhere for other people.

How to start

Three steps from signing up to your first session.

Why this suggestion: your last sets and the rule behind the target

Why it works for you

Start calm, then keep going.

Strength still responds at 50, 60 and beyond. What changes is how you start: a bit less work, more control and more rest between sets. Mitta builds that in from the first plan, then lets the targets rise with you, at your pace.

  • Machines where they helpFrom 60 the plan favours machines and cables for steadier movements.
  • At least 6 repsFrom 60, no very heavy sets with low reps.
  • More restLonger breaks between sets from 60, with a timer that starts on its own.

Questions about
strength training after 50 and 60

Can I start strength training after 60?

Many people do. Start light, move with control and build up slowly. If you have a health condition, have pain, or take medication, ask your doctor before you start. Mitta is not medical advice.

How is the plan different after 50 or 60?

From 50 you get a few sets less per muscle group. From 60 also at least 6 reps per set, longer rest and more machines. After that, building up works the same as for anyone.

Can I start if I’ve never lifted weights?

Yes. Choose beginner as your level, watch the video for each exercise and start light. The targets build from your first sessions.

Do I need a gym?

Machines help, especially from 60, but you can also start at home. Tell Mitta what equipment you have.
